Could you give us a quick overview of your role at Enterprise Exchange?
I am a Business Advisor and I assist those seeking support to explore all aspects and options of self-employment, including business planning, costs of setting up and running a business and taking into account any health issues. I help to simplify the process and make this exercise more enjoyable and interesting for the participant and helping the individual decide if self-employment is the right way forward for them.
What experience do you have which led you to work with Enterprise Exchange?
I previously set up and ran a successful recruitment business with an annual turnover of £1m + for 10 years before selling it and moving into the Business Advising sector. I spent five years working for a Disability Charity assisting participants on disability benefits and securing a £500 government grant to start a business. I spent five years working for a Charity offering ethical loans to business start-up participants who had debt and were unable to secure funding. This role included supporting the participant to complete a business plan and cash flow forecast, including a personal survival budget planner and helping them to present their business case to a lending panel. 100% of applications were approved and following approval of funding, I offered mentoring to support the participant during the term of loan repayment. I spent three years as a business advisor assisting established SME, Ltd and PLC businesses to overcome their growth challenges in business. The participants ranged from £100,000 to £100m turnover, including companies that were supplying parts to Mercedes and Ferrari F1 teams.
Which aspect of your work do you enjoy most?
Helping people realise their dream of becoming self-employed, delivering advice and support through my experience of a business advisor and someone who has run a successful business.
