Could you give us a quick overview of your role at Enterprise Exchange?
I am a business advisor for Enterprise Exchange, and have over thirty years' successful experience in management and supporting people across the commercial and social enterprise sectors.
What experience do you have which led you to work with Enterprise Exchange?
Much of my work has been in the creative industries. For Enterprise Exchange I focus on enterprise workshops and one-to-one support for people from non-traditional business backgrounds, including those facing barriers.
Which aspect of your work do you enjoy most?
What I really love about the work is seeing people realise that they have talent and potential that they didn't know they had - and their life prospects transformed because of that. The workshops especially are a joy: people are incredibly generous to each other and form a sort of mini business network that these new entrepreneurs can turn to as they go forward with their ideas. None of us gets it right all the time, but with the right support and attitude people can surprise themselves at what they can achieve. If you can't access traditional business support such as investment or business loans, that's worth its weight in gold.
When you’re not supporting EE what do you enjoy doing?
When I'm not supporting EE, I run a pioneering arts and health project called HERA and provide advice and training to other clients. And in my free time (what there is of it) I do love my gardening and walking on the South Downs!
Tea or coffee and how do you take it?
Coffee - very strong and very milky, no sugar, no froth. Two mugs in the morning and then builder's tea for the rest of the day!
